Amnon Sharon

Amnon Sharon is a former Israeli tank commander and survivor of the Yom Kippur War. Captured during a fierce battle on the Golan Heights in 1973, he endured eight months of captivity in Syria, where he suffered severe physical and psychological abuse. After returning home, Amnon built a life with his family and continued his military career, but the trauma of his captivity remained. For decades, he was haunted by recurring nightmares that brought him back to those unimaginable experiences.

Everything began to change when Amnon discovered the sculpture workshop at Beit Halochem. Guided by an art therapist, he began transforming painful memories into clay, giving form to emotions he had carried for years.

"It was better for me to turn my memories into clay than to have them stuck in my head."

One sculpture depicted the interrogator who had repeatedly appeared in his nightmares. Amnon originally planned to destroy the sculpture, but instead included it in his exhibition.

"As soon as I did that, he disappeared from my dreams."

Today, Amnon continues to create art, mentor others, and share his story of resilience. His journey is a powerful reminder that healing extends far beyond physical recovery. At Beit Halochem, programs like art therapy empower wounded warriors to process trauma, rediscover hope, and rebuild their lives.
